We did another foodie comparison science project. This time we decided to see the difference between a Walmart steak versus a Raley’s steak. Thank you Walmart for the commercials. The kids really wanted to see if there was a difference. The Walmart steak cost $8.98 per pound while the Raley’s steak was $10.99. This round we did Rib Eye steaks. Both were seasoned with salt, pepper, and the same amount of “secret spices.” Both of them were cooked in an iron skillet at 4 minutes on each side.
For judging criteria, we looked at taste, tenderness, juiciness, texture, fat content, and overall satisfaction. The results were surprising.
Tied. Yes, totally surprising. Without taking overall satisfaction into consideration, Walmart took the lead in taste and texture. Raley’s took the lead in tenderness and fat content. Both steaks tied in juiciness. The steaks were both medium rare. For overall satisfaction, Walmart took a lead by 1.5 points.

In this case, the extra $2.01 per pound didn’t seem to matter. Be the judge for yourself. I’m interested in finding out what you think of if you conducted an experiment like this on your own.
