I don’t usually don’t write restaurant reviews but I had to cover this restaurant. The restaurant is called Plaza Rizal in Daly City, California. Not only do I love eating the food there, I also help out in the kitchen and recently the restaurant was featured on a TV show, Adobo Nation, found on The Filipino Channel (TFC).
I had a great opportunity along with Chef Alex Almeda to tell the followers of Adobo Nation and the world about the many good eats found at Plaza Rizal.
The interview was fast paced and it was hard for an introvert like me to interject so I’m taking this moment to share some of the things I should have said:
Chef Alex is a culinary genius. I’m so thankful that he took me under his wing because one of my goals (in life) is to learn more about Filipino food–where it came from, where it is, and where it’s going. The future of Filipino food in the San Francisco Bay Area is in Chef Alex’s hand. In fact, if you ever ate a really good dish at a Filipino food restaurant in the area, it probably came from a concept or technique that Chef Alex created. How do I know this? I’ve been in the same kitchen as him and there’s a high level of creative energy that flows and I have no choice but absorb it and use it as a teaching moment and feel inspired. Back to the point. I eat at the many places around here and I see many concepts and cooking techniques that Chef Alex has showed me behind the scenes. Chef Alex is the chef to watch.
With that being said, watch the video!
