Spring is here which means most farmer’s markets will have squash blossoms for sale. I was lucky enough to have some squash blossoms growing in the garden. As I was watering the squash I got hungry so I picked a few blossoms and deep fried them…with string cheese!
Ingredients
Squash blossoms (remove the stem in the middle with pollen)
Tempura batter
Something to stuff them with…cheese, dates, honey, etc…
Method
Stuff the blossoms.
If you’re afraid of the contents spilling out, tie the open end with chive leaves.
Heat the oil.
Prepare the tempura batter as directed on the box.
Deep fry and enjoy.
Other suggested fillings
ricotta cheese
sausage
But really, keep it simple to enjoy the taste of the flower.
