Why People Give Up On Their Vegan Diet (And How You Can Stick To Yours)

Veganism is becoming so popular and a lot of people that never would have considered it before are trying to go meat-free. But even if you are only doing it as a temporary thing, changing your eating habits is tough and you may struggle to stick to your new diet. If you are thinking about going vegan, here are a few tips to help you stick with it.

Think About Your Reasons

Thinking about your reasons for going vegan in the first place will help to motivate you when you do feel tempted to stray from your new diet. Spend some time learning about veganism and some of the benefits, and think about why you personally want to cut out animal products. For some people, it’s an ethical thing, while others are more concerned about the environmental impact. A lot of people are doing it for health reasons as well. Whatever your reasons, having a clear goal, and thinking about how you will benefit your diet will help you to stick to it.

Learn To Cook Veg Properly

Most of us see vegetables as a side dish and they don’t get that much attention in the kitchen. That’s why people think that a vegan diet is so difficult to stick to because they see meat as the main event and vegetables as the boring side. However, if you learn to cook veg properly, it can be just as delicious as meat. For example, this roasted carrots recipe from The Mediterranean Dish is a great example of a simple recipe that gets a lot of flavor out of something as simple as a carrot. Avoid boiling vegetables at all costs and find new ways to cook them, like roasting or sauteing them so you can make vegetables the main event. When you learn how to cook veg properly, you won’t even miss the meat.

Track Your Calories

So many people start a vegan diet and find that they feel hungry and lack energy, so they give up on it. People will tell you that this because you can’t survive without animal products and so many people claim that you don’t have enough protein with a vegan diet. However, that’s not the case and the reason that people feel tired and hungry is that fruits and vegetables have far fewer calories than meat, so you probably aren’t eating enough. To begin with, you should use a food tracker app to count your calories and monitor your levels of different vitamins and nutrients. This will help you to make sure that you are eating enough calories and you have plenty of protein.

Don’t Rely On Meat Substitutes

There are some amazing meat substitutes on the market right now but if you just rely on them and cook the same meals that you did before, you won’t get very far. It doesn’t change your food mindset and eventually, you will start to miss the meat. Finding more delicious vegetarian meals to cook is a much better way to stick to your diet.

Adopting a new diet is always an adjustment but if you follow these tips, you can stick to your vegan diet for as long as you want to.
