How to Plan a Baby Shower

Baby showers have long been a favorite way for friends and family to celebrate a new baby coming into their lives. Not just celebrating the baby but also celebrating the expectant mother. And if you have a sister or a best friend in your life that you’d like to celebrate, then you might be looking at how to plan a baby shower for her. You might get overwhelmed with ideas when deciding how to plan a baby shower. If you go online, there are hundreds, if not hundreds of thousands, of websites that will tell you all about themes, cakes, and baby shower games that you should be playing.

Organizing a baby shower can be pretty tricky, especially if you’re doing it for someone close to you. If you do it wrong, it can go very wrong, but if you do it right, it can be a memorable occasion. If you’re not sure on how to do it yourself, you could always hire a party & event planning company to help. In the meantime, take a look at these tips on how to plan a baby shower. Once you’ve read them, you can decide whether this is a DIY job or whether you want to call in the big guns.

  1. Chat with friends and family first. Before you can do anything, you need to make sure that you can get everybody together at the correct date and the right time, and that means having a conversation with everybody to make sure they’re available for when you need that baby shower to happen. If you’re the one doing all the planning, you should be able to dictate the time and date, but you should check with everybody else. You don’t want to throw a baby shower and have nobody show up.
  2. Chat with the parents. You should also consult with them about the best date. Baby showers don’t have to be a surprise event, and they’re generally held towards the end of the pregnancy, a couple of months before the birth when the mother is most comfortable.
  3. Don’t do anything the expectant mother wouldn’t like. If there are specific foods that she’s not a fan of or colors, or themes she’s not a fan of, then she avoids those. You also don’t have to make this baby shower about the gender of the baby. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a girl or a boy. You don’t have to go with pink or blue. Talk to the expectant mother and ask her what kinds of things she would like to have served and what games she would like to play. It’s supposed to be an enjoyable occasion for her, not one that will make her feel any discomfort.

Plan your budget. Your budget is usually going to go on the venue, but if you do have a lovely garden between you or any of the other participants, you could always use a garden or an indoor space and host there. If the baby is due to be born in winter or the baby shower is going to be held in the winter months, then finding a nice restaurant. Or a whole, a good way to host the baby shower. Once you know where the venue will be, you can start planning your budget for other things such as cakes and, games and food.
