5-string Electric Bass with Mahogany Body, Poplar Burl Top, 5-piece Maple/Purpleheart Neck, Purpleheart Fingerboard, and Bartolini Pickups. Okay, I’m done. All those specs point out a great boutique bass guitar and I do not really need to say anything else about it.
If you’re still reading then you probably really want to know what it’s like playing this instrument. The Ibanez SRSC805 that I have has a color of Deep Twilight. Side Note: I love this name for the color. It reminds me of how wedding planners do not have regular names for colors. Back to the bass. One of my first bass guitars had Bartolini pickups and since then I have always been on a search for that exact sound. One of the reasons why I love Bartolini pickups is the diversity of sound that can be adjusted. I can go grunge when I want. I can sound jazzy. I can fade into the background with a few turns of the knobs. That’s the main reason why I love this bass.
Now for the other stuff…mahogany body…they all do. I like the poplar burl and the color Ibanez gave it. Now the neck is built masterfully. I don’t think I have another 5-piece…wait, I do but I have always wanted the purple heart in the neck. Playing on this neck fits just right for me.
I think the last piece is the weight. The overall body feels balanced and overall this is one of my lightest basses. As I get older, this seems to matter. I don’t need the super padded strap. Lastly, at first glance I did think the single cut portion of the bass guitar reminded me of a sheepshead wrasse.
