Thanks to COVID and the presidential elections, I feel like we are going to get into another toilet paper outage. In fact, my last Amazon subscription for toilet paper was canceled because they were out of stock. We are hearing more reports of a toilet paper shortage as December approaches.
With all this, I installed a bidet. More specifically, the Toto Washlet 550e. Does the e matter? I think so. More on that in a bit.
The total cost of the toilet came out to around $1200. So the question is, at what point will installing a bidet start to save money.
Based on calculations found on How Much Toilet Paper, I will consume about 69 rolls per year. The current price per roll is about $0.75 each. This brings the total to about $51.75. Since I share the toilet, we can double the numbers so for a household of 2, the total cost of toilet paper will be: $103.50.
$1,200 divided by $103.50 is 11.5 years.
Is it worth installing a $1,200 bidet? That’s all on you. For my household, it’s definitely worth it. We also believe that it is environmentally worth it.
