We keep hearing the future of food will be eating bugs and all I can think about is Starship Troopers and food episodes of Andrew Zimmern where he eats bugs. I was at the grocery store the other day and found that lobster is a lot cheaper than beef. What planet are we on?
Until we entirely switch to bugs, I’m going to get started with silkworms. My first silkworms were great. Pretty much tasteless and the only flavor came from the soy sauce it was cooked with.
Per this NIH article, silkworm pupae are a good source of protein, lipids, minerals, and vitamins and are considered a good source of nutrients for humans. Silkworm pupae are a valuable insect source of substances used in healthcare products, medicines, food additives, and animal feed.
