From her thought-provoking lyrics to her unique take on the music industry, she has certainly made a name for herself in the past few years. Recently, we had the chance to sit down with Ava and discuss what drives her creative process and how she views her role as an artist in society. We are excited to bring you this as Ava released her new song Ghost today! Read on to learn more about this rising star!
So, what makes Ava Camille unique? According to her, it’s being unapologetically herself. “I get to show up as no one but Ava Camille when I make music, and getting to wear my authenticity every day is a dream in itself,” she says. She also explains that integral to her work are the themes of finding balance between humility and pride, being creative with pure intention, and inspiring others with her art.
When asked about a real-life situation that inspired her, Ava explained how her recent experiences with dating have led to a journey of self-discovery and growth. She says this newfound clarity on who she is has translated into her upcoming music because as she learns more about herself, the music matures too.
Finally, when asked what superpower she would want to possess, Ava revealed that it would be the ability to fall asleep in 30 seconds! Her reasoning was that if she can get eight hours of sleep each night then she feels superhuman – so yes, she considers falling asleep easily to be a superpower.

Why do you do what you do?
It’s certainly not easy work trying to make a career out of singing/songwriting, but the process of creating my art is invaluable. It’s cathartic, illuminating, and so fulfilling to watch a thought come to life. When I write about my life, I’m making sense of my feelings and the world around me in an indescribably profound way. I also get to show up as no one but Ava Camille when I make music, and getting to wear my authenticity every day is a dream in itself.
Describe your day.
I wake up pretty early and like to hit the gym first thing. On days when I don’t go to the gym, I’ll do some music admin instead (think content creation, social media management, promo, etc). Then I’ll make breakfast and script. Scripting is a type of manifestation that I recently started to incorporate into my routine. Afterwards, I get ready for the day and head off to my day job, where I work as a family assistant to a wonderful family in Los Angeles. I normally get off of work around 6pm, which is typically followed by a music session or social event. But if I have neither, and I’m in need of some “me” time, I’m in bed by 10pm. I love sleep!
What’s your background?
I grew up in the Washington DC area on the MD side, and I’m the youngest of three. I went to Colby College, a small liberal arts school in Maine, where I majored in Global Studies with a focus in human rights and social justice and minored in music. After school, I moved to Boston for a few years before making my way out to Los Angeles to pursue music more seriously. I’ve lived here for almost 2 years now.
What’s integral to the work of an artist?
Being yourself, creating with pure intention, and finding a balance between humility and pride.
What role does the artist have in society?
The artist has so many roles, but I think my favorite role the artist plays in society is to inspire others. They inspire hope, change, reflection, joy, catharsis, etc. And then the inspiration gets recycled into more art, creating this never-ending beautiful cycle.
Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?
Well, my whole entire life inspires my writing. I’m constantly taking note of catch phrases that could go well in a song, moments from travel, coffee shop convos with friends, etc. But currently, I’ve been super inspired by the most universal theme of love. Or the lack thereof…my breakup almost 2 years ago inspired my most recent single “Happy With Me”, and ever since, I’ve been on a journey of self-discovery and growth that has partly occurred from the trials and tribulations of dating. It’s crazy, but in dating other people, I’ve learned the most about myself. I think this has translated into my upcoming music because as I gain more clarity on who I am as a person, my music also matures and becomes surer of itself.
What superpower would you have and why?
The ability to fall asleep in 30 seconds. I’m not the best sleeper, but when I get my 8 hours I feel superhuman. So yes, I 100% consider falling asleep easily to be a superpower. Besides that, I think flying would be pretty cool too.
Congratulations on the release of Ghost. What does “Ghost” mean for you and why did you write it?
This one is pretty self-explanatory haha I wrote “Ghost” after I was ghosted. Aka I matched with this guy on the dating apps, and I know it sounds silly, but I really felt even in our texting conversation that something was different! I got really excited about him, but I was headed home to the East Coast, so we didn’t get to meet up before I left. Long story short, we still talked while I was home, and then once I got back to LA…he ghosted me! I felt blindsided and embarrassed. I even told my parents about him, which I never do simply for this reason. Naturally to feel better, I wrote a song about it. My producer (Dave Drake) who I had just met at the time, played me a beat he created, and I knew right away that my lyrics would fit perfectly. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited after hearing a song. It’s kinda funny that the inspiration behind “Ghost” is a man who I’ve never met in real life! If only he knew.
