Like many of you, I’ve been feeling cramped from the shelter in place. For me, going out during the day has turned into a rush to gather supplies or groceries, leaving little time for enjoyment. Nightlife has ceased to exist in the way we once knew it, so I was genuinely excited when the Oakland Zoo opened its doors at night with an enchanting event featuring larger than life animal lanterns!
The zoo showcases stunning life animal lanterns throughout the grounds, each beautifully designed and bursting with color, resembling real animals in a captivating way. As you stroll through the exhibit, you’ll encounter a magical path that’s about a mile long, winding through three different themes: Blue Planet (highlighting water-related animals), Wild Kingdom (featuring big cats and other fascinating land animals), and The Land of the Lost (where dinosaurs come to life in luminous splendor). It’s truly a family-friendly experience that’s perfect for visitors of all ages, making it an excellent outing for families looking to create lasting memories together.
As you navigate the illuminated paths, you’ll feel transported to different ecosystems, all brought to life through these vibrant lanterns. The Blue Planet theme immerses you in a world of aquatic wonders, with colorful fish and shimmering ocean creatures glowing against the night sky. The Wild Kingdom showcases majestic lions, fierce tigers, and playful monkeys, all designed to spark imagination and wonder. And don’t miss The Land of the Lost, where friendly dinosaurs roam under the stars, offering a glimpse into a world long gone but now brilliantly reimagined.
Please note that while the live animals are tucked away in their heated rooms at night, the lanterns create a magical atmosphere that more than makes up for their absence. Walking through the zoo in the evening, with the glow of the lanterns illuminating your path, is a unique experience that captures the essence of adventure.
In addition to the lantern displays, there’s also a rides area where kids can enjoy fun attractions and a gift shop where you can pick up souvenirs to remember your visit. Whether it’s a plush toy, a glowing keepsake, or a piece of educational material, the gift shop offers something for everyone.
Glowfari runs until mid-January, so don’t miss out! Make sure to grab your Glowfari tickets in advance, as they tend to sell out quickly. It’s best to book at least 28 days in advance to help support the zoo’s operating expenses and ensure you secure your spot. For safety, ticket times are staggered at 6 PM, 7 PM, or 8 PM, allowing for a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
Check them out at the Oakland Zoo, located at 9777 Golf Links, and enjoy this enchanting event! With its unique blend of art, nature, and family fun, Glowfari promises to be a highlight of your winter season. So gather your loved ones, put on your walking shoes, and prepare for a night of wonder and excitement! ??? #OaklandZoo #Glowfari #FamilyFun #BayAreaEvents #AnimalLanterns
